Dr. Rich Luker is widely known as the creator of the ESPN Sports Poll, the ongoing intelligence benchmark that measures the thoughts, beliefs and actions of American sports fans. With over 25 years of social research on leisure and free time activity, Luker is also well known for his research on the impact of dynamic social change on leisure activity and consumer behavior. A particular emphasis of all his research is the role of the current economic client. His book “Simple Community” will be published in 2009 and explains why simple time together is so important in an economically challenging and technology centered culture.
Rich also draws from over 25 years as an academic. In 2005 Dr. Luker was named the Woodard Family Senior Research Fellow in the Warsaw Center at the University of Oregon. Rich has served as an Associate Professor of Business in the Haab School of Business, Concordia University and Adjunct Associate Professor at The University of Michigan from 1998-2006. Dr. Luker is currently an Adjunct Professor in Northwestern University’s Master of Sports Administration program.
